We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated CAD Technician to work in our team of skilled Civil Engineers. Your daily work would involve drafting up and assisting in the design of an ever-widening variety of projects including drainage schemes, road alignments, S278 agreements, foundation designs, to name but a few. Our clients are developers, architects and councils, and repeat business is vital in our work therefore consistency and reliability is a key value for us. Experience in highways is preferred however we are open to the right attitude and desire to learn.

Skills Required

  • Previous technician level experience of 3+ years in highways/ Infrastructure
  • Significant experience of AutoCAD systems required
  • Experience with vehicle tracking software 
  • A sound knowledge of engineering design principles
  • Sound knowledge of CDM regulations and the impact of safety in design
  • Ability to use engineering knowledge to apply technical and practical skills to undertake tasks
  • Ability to identify problems in own area of work and apply appropriate methods to identify causes and find solutions
  • Work reliably and effectively without close supervision, or be developing towards this
  • Ability to accept, allocate and supervise technical tasks
  • An understanding of construction methods and their impact on designs
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines

Role Specific Requirements

  • Work within a design team responsible for the design of drainage systems, highway layouts, S278/S38 schemes, foundations and structures
  • Work in a design environment with regular exposure to developers, architects and local authorities
  • Draft and contribute to the design of on and off-site highway features in accordance with the appropriate standards and codes e.g. Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, and Manual for Streets
  • Draft and contribute to the design of drainage systems in accordance with Sewers for Adoption, building regulations and the SuDS Manual
  • Draft and contribute to the design of foundations and residential structures in accordance with relevant codes of practice
  • Sound knowledge of building regulations
  • Be responsible for the production of consistent high-quality drawing packages, considering specific client requirements
  • Undertake vehicle tracking for both on and off-site highway layouts
  • Provide technical input and support for reports and technical notes
