Providing both on and off-site highway design services, Paul Basham Associates assisted McCarthy and Stone in delivering their Retirement Living development in the new town of Bradley Stoke, South Gloucestershire.
Paul Basham Associates were instructed to undertake the necessary Section 38 works, providing engineering services for the site access and an internal estate road to accommodate both 50 McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living units and 24 affordable housing units (Bluebell Gardens) as part of the wider development.
Paul Basham Associates were tasked with designing the site access and internal road design for adoption by South Gloucestershire Council. Other works included footpath improvements linking to the nearby retail areas and internal traffic calming features. Existing constraints on this scheme resulted in testing periods at times with the proximity of signal crossing and Savages Wood Road and underground services, but working closely with the highway authority and statutory undertakers, our team overcame these to deliver a scheme that met all requirements.
Complementing the highway design, drainage modelling was undertaken and an adoptable highway surface water system designed as part of the S38 works on the way to technical approval.
Approval of the S38 works was given by South Gloucestershire and the highway works implemented shortly after - now operational the infrastructure for both the Brook Court and Bluebell Gardens developments.
