James joined Paul Basham Associates in 2013 after graduating from the University of Southampton. Having completed a secondment with West Sussex County Council and an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering whilst with the company, James now leads the Oxford team as Principal Transport Planner.
What does your job involve?
I have quite a wide ranging role guiding and developing the Oxford team, looking after clients and ensuring the delivery of a top quality product. I am also involved in workload planning, making sure we have an exciting stream of projects coming in to support the ongoing growth of the region.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I really enjoy supporting the progress of our fantastic team – having started with the company as a graduate I really believe in the value of our training programme and ongoing staff development is crucial to how we operate. I love revisiting sites that we’ve helped through the planning process – there’s really nothing more satisfying than seeing great developments come out of the ground and to know we’ve made a difference.
What do you get up to in your free time?
Away from work, I’m a Charlton fan so can usually be found at The Valley (less said about that the better). I do manage to get away on a few city breaks and I’m into my dance music so sometimes get to festivals!
What do you see for the future at Paul Basham Associates?
Since we opened the Oxford office 4 years ago with just two of us on the first day, the growth of the team has been fantastic and I’m looking forward to supporting the ongoing expansion. We’ve got some really exciting plans and will have to see what the next few years hold!
