Staplewood Training Ground, Southampton

The brief

Ahead of Premiership football returning to St Mary’s, Paul Basham Associates team of transport planners and engineers assisted Southampton Football Club with realising their vision and gaining planning consent for a new world class training facility to assist the club’s present and future ambitions.

Our approach

Paul Basham Associates initially provided feasibility advice on the most appropriate means of access to suitably facilitate the development proposals. Through careful consideration of the surrounding highway constraints and internal function of the site, an 'In-only' solution was developed for coach and service access, with separate access for staff and visitors.

The application was supported by a Transport Statement that addressed local concerns such as over-spill parking onto local roads on match days. An NMU report was also provided which included a detailed walk over of the site to assess access for non-motorised users.

The result

Paul Basham Associates continued their involvement in the project through progressing Section 171 (temporary construction access) and Section 278 (off-site highway works) agreements, working closely with the project team as well as Hampshire County Council and have secured Section 278 technical approval.

We have since been involved in subsequent applications to amend and expand on these facilities following the successful rise from League 1 to European football.

As construction at Staplewood Training Ground continues, Paul Basham Associates is proud to support Southampton Football Club’s recent success on and off the field.

From our client

Southampton Football Club would not hesitate in utilising Paul Basham Associates experience and knowledge again and would recommend their services to any other business in their area of professional traffic consultation.
