Following a successful change of use application, KFC are now operating a site in Ferndown, formerly used as a car showroom and repairs garage.
The challenge with this scheme was to provide the restaurant with an accompanying safe and functional drive-through facility with access onto Ringwood Road, as well as providing sufficient car parking that met the franchise's and the highway authority's expectations.
Paul Basham Associates produced a detailed Transport Statement to support the application. Access onto the busy Ringwood Road (A348) proved to be a hot topic, although we were able to provide evidence to support the development using National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) guidance.
Although the application was originally met with a number of local objections, Paul Basham Associates worked closely with Dorset County Council highway officers and the public to ensure a majority vote in favour of the proposals at planning committee.
We recently re-visited the site and are happy to report a thriving restaurant and drive through.
