At Paul Basham Associates, we pride ourselves on the growth and development of our staff, and believe in giving everyone the tools they require to help them achieve their professional goals.
Your Journey
We are fully equipped to support you with the start of your career in Transport Planning and Civil & Structural Engineering. Our Graduate Transport Planner and Apprentice Civil & Structural Engineer Training Programmes are designed with career development and one-on-one training at the forefront of our minds.
If this sounds like something you would like to get involved in then we would love to hear from you! Please click on the 'Vacancies' button below to see what opportunities we currently have available.

Mentoring
As part of the programme you will be paired with a senior colleague that will guide you through the key elements of Transport Planning or Civil & Structural Engineering, company policies as well as coordinating your project work, and relevant tutorials. Your mentor will be your friendly first point of contact for any queries, work related or otherwise.
Appraisals
You will benefit from monthly catch-ups, quarterly reviews and annual appraisals to allow you to get the most out of the programme. This will allow you to communicate with your manager on a regular basis. Within this you will also get an opportunity to raise any issues you may be having or any areas of the business that you would like to be involved with more.
Professional Development
While working at Paul Basham Associates, you will get ample opportunities to develop professionally. We offer the opportunity to undertake a part-time Masters in Transportation Planning and Engineering as well as the opportunity to join the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transport.
Alternatively if you are working towards a professional qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers, we can aid you on your journey via the mentor-supported route by providing you with an ICE accredited Mentor that can review and sign-off your attributes. If you enrol as a Level 3 apprentice, once you receive your qualification you would then have the opportunity to continue your studies to Level 6.
Technical Development
As part of our Apprenticeship programmes you will have the opportunity to continually develop your technical skills and use key computer software including Revit, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD and Site3D. You will also assist with writing technical reports and preparing engineering drawings.
If you are pursuing the Transport Planning route, you will be using key computer software including AutoCAD, Junctions 11 and Linsig. These key skills will help you when preparing reports and completing the necessary vehicle tracking, measurement calculations and modelling assessments for the projects you are working on.
Project Experience
From your first day you will have the opportunity to get involved in project work. You will assist with projects and will undertake activities such as report writing, site layout advice, detailed design, 3D modelling, and site visits (depending on what discipline you are pursuing) as well as keeping track of the budget and reporting any issues to your internal project team.

What our staff have to say

I joined Paul Basham associates in 2022 as a Civil Engineering Technician, and since then I’ve had the privilege of progressing through two promotions to become a Civil Engineer. Since joining, I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of construction disciplines, where I’ve been able to provide valuable civil engineering input and gain invaluable experience. Every project has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine my skills, and I’m excited to continue this journey of professional development. I’m also proud to share that I’m currently working towards achieving my Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with the ICE, which marks another exciting milestone in my career. Along the way, Paul Basham Associates provided incredible support, allowing me to balance work and studies effectively.

Since joining, I have developed my skills and knowledge in areas which include client liaison, AutoCAD, and project management. I’ve also had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including a number of our Travel Plan Coordination sites which is a key passion of mine. At Paul Basham Associates you not only develop key skills, but are provided with an opportunity to develop your learning, and work with a talented team.
