The Proposal
The proposed development sought to convert an existing language school and offices at Dolphin House to provide a new music school with offices, with a reduction in car parking proposed. The site is located within Central Brighton, with excellent links to public transport.
The Approach
Given the sites excellent accessibility by public transport, the applicant sought to reduce the car parking provision from 8 spaces to 3, with the majority of students and staff travelling by sustainable forms of transport. Despite this, Brighton and Hove raised concerns over the level of parking and we were required to provide a robust argument for this reduction based on proposed staffing levels at the Music School.
To support the planning application, we were required to prepare a Transport Statement, along with a Travel Plan Statement to set out measures which could be used to encourage staff and students to travel sustainably and reduce parking street.
The Outcome
We are delighted to see that the site achieved Full planning permission in September 2021. We look forward to seeing this site occupied by the BIMM Music Institute.
