Paul Basham Associates worked with Downing College to support a full planning application for a new student centre on the site of the existing Butterfield Building.
The Brief
The project aimed to create a mixed-use student-only facility including a bar/café, co-working space, conference rooms and various recreational/leisure facilities.
Our Approach
Involved from the outset we were able to provide input into the initial design, working simultaneously on a transport statement for the site as well as a review of the proposed access arrangements. This made up the first stages of the project with a review of the site's accessibility, its suitability for end users, with justification of parking arrangements and servicing/ emergency vehicle access followed by an assessment of trips generating from the site and the logistics of construction vehicle access.
The Result
Following the submission of our contributions to the project, we were pleased to see the application approved in September 2021 and look forward to seeing the scheme built out within the scenic Downing College grounds.
