The Proposal
We were instructed to assist with a review of the Highfield Campus to support a 10-year masterplan which sought to consolidate and better locate parking across the campus as well as supporting sustainable transport modes. Being local consultants with many employees having attended the university, the team were well placed to assist with the works and were excited to be involved in the development and the campus.
The Approach
In the first instance, we completed a comprehensive review of parking across the Highfield Campus and the surrounding local road network. This included parking surveys completed during term time and holiday periods as well as reviewing UoS parking permit holder data against parking provision. A comprehensive review of parking stress and availability was completed to inform the 10-year masterplan and where parking could be relocated, consolidated and removed to better accommodate sustainable travel on campus and release land for redevelopment (including Jubilee Sports Centre expansion and North East Quarter). Paul Basham Associates were on hand to attend meetings to discuss the masterplan and parking strategy with the works completed used to inform the university’s upcoming planning applications. ensure the site would be permeable and connect well with the existing Highfield Campus.
The Outcome
The masterplan is still in progress, however, works on Highfield Campus are on going as the University seeks to improve its offering to staff, students and visitors. This includes redevelopments at the Jubilee Sports Centre for example, where Paul Basham Associates also assisted.
