Nutley War Memorial Hall, Nutley

Paul Basham Associates assisted with a single storey expansion at Nutley War Memorial to provide a dedicated space for a Preschool, an indoor play space and a new changing room facility.

The Proposal

We were approached to provide the transport Planning works for a full planning application for the extension of Nutley War Memorial to help provide additional space to support a pre-school and play facilities. We suggested that we would prepare a Transport Statement to support the application.

The Approach

In support of the application a Transport Statement was prepared with the aim to confirm that the proposed extension would not have a severe impact on the operation, capacity or safety of the surrounding highway network. To confirm this, it was important to understand how the existing site operated and how the operation of the site would differ following delivery of the extension.

We were able to successfully argue that the delivery of the extension would in fact have a positive impact on the surrounding highway network and the Ashdown Forest, as this would remove need for local children to attend preschools outside the local area, a great benefit of the scheme to the local public.

To aid with argument we completed an in-depth review of walking and cycling links to indicate that site users would most likely live local and travel by sustainable modes. The client was also supportive of the sustainable transport measures and were keen to ensure parents and children of the pre-school were aware of the sustainable travel options.

The Outcome

The planning application received consent in June 2019 and the extension has since been completed.
