Paul Basham Associates were delighted to support an application for an expansion to the existing Long Furlong Medical Practice to provide three additional consulting rooms. The extension of the surgery will ensure that the practice is able to continue providing a high quality health service to new and existing residents following an increase in demand, generated by recent residential development in the Abingdon area.
The Brief
Working on behalf of Long Furlong Medical Practice and alongside West Waddy Arcadia, Paul Basham Associates were instructed to undertake an Parking Assessment and Transport Statement to demonstrate that the increase in in parking demand resulting from the extension would not have an adverse impact upon the operation or safety of the local road network.
The Approach
In the first instance, we assessed information provided by the operator to establish the likely increase in visitors and parking demand. We then instructed a parking survey of the surrounding highway network, including a community car park, to establish the existing on-street capacity as the existing medical centre car park was to be reduced in size to accommodate the expansion. Upon receiving the parking survey data, we analysed the results and established a robust approach for justifying that the increase in vehicle trips and parking demand would not lead to a detrimental impact on the local road network. We then carried out a site visit to further assess the existing highway and site conditions, before then producing a Transport Statement to support the application, with details relating to accessibility, parking and trip generation all included.
The Result
Following submission of the planning application, including the Transport Statement, in April 2023, planning permission was granted in October 2023.
