Paul Basham Associates were delighted to work with the wider project team on the redevelopment of the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely, East Cambridgeshire. The development will provide enhanced facilities, modernized services and enable more joined up health and social care for the wider community.
The Brief
Paul Basham Associates were instructed to complete all necessary transport and highway works required to support this outline application. These works included pre-application consultation with East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council Highways completing a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan as well as undertaking external traffic modelling and internal masterplan input.
The Approach
After receiving pre- application feedback a Transport Assessment was prepared which detailed the proposed access arrangements, internal site layout and parking as well as a traffic impact assessment. Junction capacity assessments were carried out detailing the number of vehicle trips expected at the proposed development. Close liaison with the highway authority was required in relation to survey data given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on traffic flow in the area. Junctions 9 software was used to assess the junctions in the vicinity of the site with the methodology agreed beforehand with Cambridgeshire County Council. A Travel Plan was also submitted as part of the planning application.
The Result
The development received outline planning permission in Summer 2021 and having worked on the project for a number of years is a great success for our Cambridge Office and a positive outcome for the client. We look forward to continuing work on the scheme through subsequent phases.
