This large apartment scheme in the heart of Poole challenged us to negotiate with the local authority to provide much needed affordable housing in the city.
The Brief
Paul Basham Associates were asked to provide evidence that the site would not have an adverse impact on the local highway network, in particular in respect to the location and design of the vehicular access.
The Approach
We were able to demonstrate that the access on Sterte Road was acceptable in highway terms despite concerns regarding the close proximity of the railway and the A350 signal junction being raised. Through the submission of a technical note, visibility splays and vehicle tracking the site received no objection from Highways Officers at the Borough of Poole Council.
In addition, the Paul Basham Associates team managed to agree a servicing arrangement whereby refuse collection is to be undertaken from Sterte Road removing the turning head, and therefore enabling our client to add undercroft car parking and extra security to their development which will benefit the residents of the new development.
The Result
The local highway authority were content that Paul Basham Associates had sufficiently demonstrated that there would be negligible impact on the local road network, ultimately permitting the development to proceed.
