Providence Hill, Bursledon

Paul Basham Associates provided Transport Planning and Civil Engineering support for a residential development at Providence Hill, Bursledon. Our team provided input from the project’s conception, with a highway access feasibility assessment, through to an outline application for 62 units. We also provided further support with the subsequent Reserved Matters Application, as well as undertaking larger scale highways work to support to assess the implications of increased development on the site.

THE BRIEF

We were approached initially to provide access feasibility design works for potential residential development onto the A27, with access the fundamental constraint, our early involvement was needed to unlock the site’s potential.

OUR APPROACH

We undertook initial access design work to determine the most suitable location and configuration of the access. Considering the access’ implications on the wider site layout, our team sought preliminary approval for the access design (and capacity) from the highway authority, to minimise abortive works within the wider project team.

We supported the subsequent outline planning application with a Transport Statement, demonstrating minimal impact on the surrounding highway network. With the development of the site access already approved “in principle”, the planning application was streamlined, and the proposals were fully supported with a Stage 1 RSA.

Impressed with Paul Basham Associates works to date, Foreman Homes retained our support for the subsequent Reserved Matters application. With complex levels on-site, both our civil engineering and highways planning team provided affordable solutions to challenging development criteria.

THE RESULT

With a positive recommendation from highway officers, outline planning permission was granted in 2014. Paul Basham Associates has since provided further transport planning and civil engineering work, supporting the Reserved Matters application approved in 2016.  Discussions are already underway to establish greater development potential through this site to land at the rear.
