St James Place, Clanfield

Paul Basham Associates provided Transport Planning support to repeat client Barratt David Wilson Homes in securing planning consent for 221 dwellings and sports facilities on the edge of South Downs National Park.

The brief

Having succeeded in providing Barratt David Wilson Homes with successful outcomes in prior projects, our team were tasked with providing transport planning support for this greenfield site.

Our approach

Paul Basham Associates provided pre-application support to the wider team, giving advice on the highway aspects of the proposals, such as the access configuration. The ecologically sensitive boundary hedgerow required a considerate access design, to ensure highways approval would not result in landscape/ecology objection. Several access options were considered, with two bellmouth accesses agreed with Hampshire County Council at the pre-application stage to provide confidence to work up the layout from those fixed points.

A Transport Assessment and Travel Plan was undertaken to support the planning application. Detailing the agreed access, trip generation, highway impact, site accessibility, and Personal Injury Accident history, the Transport Assessment was further supported by an Addendum Technical Note, addressing specific highway office concerns.

The result

Located just off the A3, our staff are often driving past and can’t resist popping in to see this development being delivered.

From our client

I would like to say "well done" for the great work and effort to gain consent, it was a big team effort and exactly what BDW needs.
