Paul Basham Associates assisted Churchill Retirement Living with Condition Discharge and a Construction Drainage Design on a compact site in the historic centre of Bury St Edmunds. We also completed the S278 application and offsite highway design.
The Brief
Paul Basham Associates supported Churchill with the delivery of this desirable site in the centre of historic Bury St Edmunds. The development was on a brownfield site, and due to the city centre location, space for attenuation and other below-ground drainage infrastructures was limited. Paul Basham Associates completed a detailed drainage design with accompanying MicroDrainage Network hydraulic modelling. The drainage design, and supporting modelling, were submitted to the planning authority, successfully achieving condition discharge.
The Approach
Utility records for the area were incomplete. The nearest suitable sewer appeared to be in the carriageway of a major roundabout adjacent to the site. Closing the roundabout to install the new connection would have been a disruptive and very costly operation. Through working with our trusted survey partners, we were able to locate an alternative connection point for discharge from the site, saving a considerable amount of time and cost.
The Result
We also completed the S278 design for the site, achieving Technical Approval with the Highway Authority and successfully discharging a further planning condition.
