Stour Gate, Blandford

Having produced the Transport and Travel Plan for the development site, we were instructed as the Travel Plan Coordinator to deliver the staff Travel Plan.

The Proposal

Paul Basham Associates took on the responsibility of delivering the staff Travel Plan in full. This role involves overseeing the implementation of a range of sustainable travel measures aimed at encouraging staff to adopt more environmentally friendly commuting habits. Our duties include coordinating with local transport providers, monitoring travel behaviours, organising awareness campaigns, and ensuring that all initiatives align with planning obligations and sustainability targets. By working closely with both management and employees, we aim to maximise the effectiveness of the Travel Plan, reduce single-occupancy car journeys, and contribute to the overall success of the development’s sustainability

The Approach

Whilst the development includes residents and staff the focus of the travel plan is on encouraging staff to travel sustainably to the site, as the development is a retirement facility.

This site has seen us produce Staff Welcome Packs to support appointments of new McCarthy Stone staff as well as creating biannual newsletters promoting to both staff and residents the local sustainable travel opportunities available around Blandford St Marys.

As the Travel Plan Coordinator we are also responsible for undertaking travel surveys of the on-site staff as well as reporting the work completed over the course of the previous year to Dorset Council’s Travel Plan Officer.

The Outcome

We are currently 2 years into our TPC delivery for the site and whilst we are continuing to work on increasing engagement with staff our implementation of the Travel Plan is going well, and is supported by Dorset Council.
