Salcombe Harbour Hotel & Spa is located in the heart of Salcombe, Devon. This project was one of our favourites in terms of location; the views overlooking Salcombe Harbour are hard to beat.
Paul Basham Associates were approached by Savills to assist their client The Harbour Hotel Group with the highways aspects of this scheme to expand and upgrade the Hotel, which forms part of the Harbour Hotel chain of luxury spa hotels. The works to the former Marine Hotel comprised impressive upgrades including a new spa facility and additional suites.
Our Team provided a Transport Statement and Travel Plan for the hotel regeneration, demonstrating acceptability in highways terms. The car park provided Paul Basham Associates with a challenge; with very little room to manoeuvre adequately (with varying gradients also an issue), a solution was needed to ensure sufficient parking and turning space was provided to support an increase in bedrooms and facilities.
We provided sound justification for the expansion, demonstrating the acceptability of the proposals. A novel solution was also found for the tight parking area, with a vehicular turntable and valet parking system being implemented to allow cars to turn at the end of the parking bays to safely allow exit from the site in forward gear.
Permission was granted and we were able to see the fruits of our labour in a subsequent stay by Paul, who saw the vehicular turntable in action, demonstrating how our advice has allowed the number of guests at the hotel to increase, without detriment to highway safety.
