The Proposal
Phase 1 of Dashwood Avenue was designed in its final form to combine an innovative verge drainage/swales/tree pits system, parking bays, crossovers, segregated footway/cycleways and a complex utilities layout. These elements reflect key aspects of the Streets Manual, creating a beautiful street scene to be enjoyed by the community.
The Approach
Phase 1 of Dashwood Avenue initially served as a vital haul road to enable construction access across the site. Once the main structural works were completed, this route became the primary through road for the development.
Our design was carefully aligned with the wider master plan layout. At the outset, we scaled the design back to deliver a focused haul road construction pack, allowing works to progress swiftly. Detailed design behind the kerb line supported robust tender and construction packs, and we provided dedicated onsite support throughout. Our team also managed the haul road’s planning submission to ensure all approvals were in place. Coordination with landscape architects and utilities companies was central to detailing the complex arrangement under the surface.
The Result
This staged and collaborative approach resulted in reserve matters being approved smoothly. The road was constructed to a high standard and is partly now open to the public. This first phase has successfully delivered vital access and connectivity, setting the foundations for the wider Dashwood Avenue project and demonstrating our commitment to high-quality, coordinated infrastructure delivery for Buckland Limited.
