The Brief
The Welborne Streets Manual (WSM) forms part of a set of framework documents that will uphold the identity, character and vision of the development, to ensure it is constructed and maintained in accordance with set guiding principles now and in the future.
The aim of the WSM is to outline the regulations and conditions that will inform the street network design. The document includes adoptability arrangements, the movement strategy, street design principles and street layouts.
Paul Basham Associates supported Welborne Land Ltd and their appointed Town Architect Ben Pentreath in the development of the manual which has now receiving planning approval for its implementation.
Our Approach
In the Movement Strategy and Street Design Principles chapters, we provided design drawings for incorporation into various diagrams including typical junction arrangements, cross-sections and drainage layouts. We also aided the wording of various sections and provided technical advice for the materials treatments palette.
For the Street Layout chapter we provided technical details for inclusion in each of the street hierarchy type characteristics, and typical junction designs for various combinations of road hierarchies joining which included details such as tactile arrangements, visibility, material specification, lining etc. We also provided design drawings for the levels surface junctions and non-motorised user crossing point details.
The Result
The WSM has now been approved by Fareham Borough Council for implementation on the delivery of the development.
