Western Employment Area Enabling Works, Welborne

The Proposal

The Western Employment Area 1 Enabling Works project involves re-profiling land, soil movement, and establishing construction access. Our role encompasses Civil Engineering and Transport Planning support to facilitate the Reserved Matters (RM) application. A key objective is to reuse excess cut material from this site within the Welborne development, reducing both project costs and carbon footprint by minimising the need for imported materials.

The Approach

To optimise soil movement and accurately assess cut volumes, we utilised topographical data and Site 3D design software, designing detailed levels that informed the earthworks analysis. A comprehensive design pack was created, which included earthworks volume analysis, haul road access design, and drainage solutions. Additionally, we designed the final alignment and levels for the undergrounding of a 33kV overhead cable—an essential component that links with the M27 J10 works utilities diversion works. Our Transport Planning team developed a Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) and conducted a Public Rights of Way (PRoW) Risk Assessment to ensure safe and efficient site access in support of the RM application.

The Result

Reserved Matters consent has been granted, positioning the project well for future works and facilitating the development of the surrounding commercial area.
