A Memorable Day on the Green – Paul Basham Associates Golf Day at Goodwood

We couldn’t have asked for a better day at Goodwood for this year’s Paul Basham Associates Golf Day. With beautiful weather, top-tier hospitality, and a little healthy competition, the event brought together colleagues, partners, and friends for a memorable day of golf and good company.

We were incredibly proud to again partner with Pancreatic Cancer UK for this year’s event and are thrilled to share that, thanks to the generosity of everyone who took part, we raised £1,630 for this important cause. It’s a charity that means a great deal to us at Paul Basham Associates, and we’re truly grateful for the kindness and support shown throughout the day.

A Smooth Start
The day kicked off early, with the brief beginning at 08:45, with breakfast rolls and coffee keeping everyone fuelled as excitement built across the course.

At 09:30, Paul Basham and the Goodwood team officially welcomed players before teams were assigned and directed to their starting holes. With 25 traditional buggies ready to go, the Shotgun Start fired, and the action was underway.

On the Course
As always, the course proved both beautiful and challenging. There were moments of brilliance, towering drives splitting the fairway, long putts that curled in at the last second, and a few unlikely birdies that had teams celebrating.

Of course, there were also the inevitable mishaps, tee shots vanishing into the rough, a few balls finding creative routes into the trees, and players navigating bunkers. Some shots were worthy of highlight reels, others... best forgotten.

Despite the occasional detour into long grass, spirits remained high, and the on-course competitions added extra excitement:

  • Beat the Pro (James Braid Hole)
  • Longest Drive (3rd Hole)
  • Nearest the Pin (12th Hole)
  • Nearest the Pin in Two (9th Hole)

Celebrating the Winners
By midafternoon, players finished their final holes and made their way back to the glorious Goodwood Kennels. Here, they were welcomed with a five-star BBQ. With delicious food and refreshing drinks, it was the perfect setting to relax and recount the day’s highlights.

Of course, the moment everyone had been waiting for was the prize giving, where the following winners were recognised:

  • Top Individual Players – Stewart Jones (Buckland Development) and Will McKay (Lovell)
  • Winning Team – Dave Pearson (Paul Basham Associates), Tony Deacon, Phil Deacon (Deacon Designs), and Daniel Poole (Bellway Homes)
  • Longest Drive – Christian Morris (Ramp Studio Limited)
  • Nearest the Pin – Max Woolcott (Persimmon Homes)
  • Nearest the Pin in Two – Phil Deacon (Deacon Designs)
  • Beat the Pro – Stewart Jones (Buckland Development)

The celebrations continued into the late afternoon.

Wrapping Up
A huge thank you to the Goodwood team for their support and professionalism throughout the day, and to all who attended and contributed to making the event such a success. Special thanks to Angie Foster, Vicki Preston and Evie Bryan for their early start and seamless event setup, and to John Cromer and James Warwick for capturing the footage and pictures of the magnificent day.

Until next time – we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another fantastic round!
