Our team based at the Welborne site in Fareham, is very excited to introduce another new member, Kevin Mitchell. He's joining us as a Principal Civil Engineer.
He began his career in the construction industry as a Land Surveyor but quickly realised that standing out in the cold and wet wasn’t how he wanted to spend the rest of his working life. It didn’t take long for him to turn to Engineering—a decision that set the course for the rest of his career.
Over the years, he has worked with Local Authorities, Developers, and even ran his own small Engineering Consultancy Practice for several years. He spent time working as a sole practitioner and, while that brought a level of independence and flexibility, it also proved to be a lonely experience. He missed the energy and collaboration of a larger team.
So, when the opportunity arose to join the team at Welborne and contribute to a large-scale infrastructure project, he jumped at the chance.
Though his formal training is in Civil Engineering, he has developed a broad skill set that allows him to understand the process of land development. He has worked across both commercial and residential projects—from initial land appraisals right through to design and construction.
Early in his career, he was fortunate to be mentored by experienced Senior Engineers. Their guidance left a lasting impression on him, and he has carried those lessons throughout his professional life. As a result, he is committed to mentoring the next generation of Engineers and always endeavours to make time to support their growth.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, watching cricket, and keeping up with his energetic grandson. While many say golf is a good walk ruined—and given his playing style, he often agrees!—it remains a passion of his. One of his most memorable experiences was travelling to the Antipodes and attending the iconic Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne to watch England take on Australia in the Ashes.
Throughout his life, he has believed that opportunities will always present themselves. In his own words "some people don’t see them, and they pass them by; others see the opportunities but don’t act—but there are those who recognise the moment and take the leap. He knows which type of person he is."
