Under the Spotlight with Alex Stephenson

Alex joined Paul Basham Associates in January 2019 as a Senior Transport Planner in our fast-growing Bristol office. Alex is a native to the Bristol/Bath area and brings with him a wealth of experience from previous roles and projects within Development Transport Planning. Today we are speaking to Alex to find out more about him and his role.

What does your job involve?

My role as Senior Transport Planner includes a wide range of responsibilities from providing advice and documentation to support and overcome highways issues or support planning applications, to ensuring our client and project base continues to expand to support our ambitious growth plans for the region.

Tell us a bit about your day to day role?

My typical day would involve progressing planning documents such as Transport Assessments or Travel Plans, providing written and verbal advice to clients, and liaising with Local Authorities to ensure successful planning outcomes.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

What I love most about my role is the variety of challenges that each project presents. With a healthy turnover of projects in a number of different sectors no two days are the same and we have to keep on our toes!

What achievement are you most proud of since joining Paul Basham Associates?

Without mentioning specific projects my proudest moments have been receiving positive feedback from clients who have felt that we have added real value to their business. Whether this has been following advice we have provided to inform land purchase decisions or after securing positive planning decisions, it always feels good to know that we are making a difference and that our clients value the work we are doing.

What do you see for the future at Paul Basham Associates?

It’s a very exciting time to be a part of the Bristol office having just celebrated our 1 year anniversary. We have had a brilliant first year and I’m confident that we will continue to go from strength to strength, becoming a major player in the South West along the way.

What do you get up to in your free time?

I’m a keen cyclist and enjoy the occasional game of rugby, although I do a lot more watching than playing! I also talked myself into running the Bristol Half Marathon last year and just about managed to squeeze in under two hours.
