Dannielle joined Paul Basham Associates as a Graduate Transport Planner in August 2024, following the completion of her BSc degree in Geography. With a keen interest in sustainable travel, Dannielle is keen to develop her career at Paul Basham Associates.
What does your job involve?
As a Graduate Transport Planner, my role includes a broad mix of responsibilities—from producing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans, to drawing up site access and reviewing layouts in AutoCAD. I also support colleagues on a variety of projects, attending site visits, traffic modelling, and report writing. There's a great mix of technical work and problem-solving, with plenty of opportunities to learn from the wider team.
What made you choose a role in transport planning?
Transport planning stood out to me as a field where I could have a direct impact on making communities more accessible and sustainable. I was drawn to the idea of improving the way people travel—whether by walking, cycling, or public transport. This role allows me to not only analyse and assess traffic and development proposals but also actively contribute to creating sustainable residential developments.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
The diversity of the work is definitely the part I enjoy the most. Each day presents a new challenge or opportunity—whether it's working out on site, assessing the feasibility of new development projects, or collaborating with different teams. I particularly enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my job whilst working closely with developers, architects, and local authorities which adds a layer of collaboration that makes each project unique and rewarding.
What do you get up to in your free time?
Every Saturday, I participate in the Bournemouth Park Run, which is a great way to start the weekend. During the week, I also enjoy pottery painting as well as going to the gym with friends. Additionally, I have a scuba PADI license, so I love getting out on diving trips whenever possible (preferably not in the UK sea).
