Izzie joined Paul Basham Associates as a Graduate Transport Planner in 2018 after gaining a BSc Geography Undergraduate Degree at Oxford Brookes University. Upon successfully progressing through the Graduate Training Programme, she is flourishing in her role and is enjoying her career progression with us.
What does your job involve?
On a day to day basis, my job involves leading on as well as assisting on projects and liaising with clients, checking reports and drawings, writing fee proposals, attending team meetings and feeding back any important items back to colleagues. I am also a committee member on the RTPI young planners and the Women in Planning committee so I also help to organise and advertise events that we are hosting in the region.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I like how varied the role is, how no day is the same and how you can be involved in such a wide variety of projects! I also really enjoy seeing projects receiving planning permission and getting built out and having played a part in those projects getting over the line.
I have also really enjoyed assisting some more junior colleagues with queries and seeing them apply that knowledge in other projects now is also really rewarding.
What challenges you each day?
You’re constantly learning and broadening your knowledge through working on certain projects as well as problem solving and this can be equally rewarding and challenging. I also think how much the industry is changing and evolving is definitely challenging and how we are having to advise clients of aspects relating to Net Zero and sustainable transport measures.
What do you get up to in your free time?
Outside of work, I enjoy going for runs either before or after work and going to the gym, I have signed up for the Oxford Half Marathon in October so will be training for that very soon! Having Oxford close by is also nice, being able to pop in and walk around Oxford City Centre is definitely a perk! Other than that I spend a lot of time planning where to go on holiday!
