UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT WITH LILLIE STAINES

Lillie joined Paul Basham Associates as a Graduate Transport Planner in 2019 after successfully gaining a BA Geography undergraduate degree at University of Portsmouth. Although originally based at the Fareham Office Lillie has recently moved to our Cambridge office to be closer to home.

What does your job involve?

On a day to day basis my job involves working with colleagues on a range of different projects. I am mostly involved in report writing, reviewing layouts and preparing drawings and using AutoCAD with a site visit every now and then. As I have recently moved to the Cambridge office I am still in the process of getting to know the wider area and how things work in the Cambridgeshire region.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

I enjoy the variety of projects and the challenges they present. Each project is different and no day is the same at Paul Basham Associates. Prior to taking the role as a graduate transport planner, I didn’t have much experience. However, I’ve gained huge exposure to a wide range of schemes which is a great way of learning and developing my skills whilst being involved in project work. Having been in the role for a year now I have gained a wealth of knowledge and enjoy working independently and apply creative solutions to some challenging situations.

What do you see for the future at Paul Basham Associates?

I’ve really been made to feel welcome and part of the team here at Paul Basham Associates.  There is a great focus on individual’s progression in the company which is a good way of seeing where you can be in the future. I hope to carry on learning about the transport planning industry and expanding my skills and knowledge so I can too progress within the company.

What do you get up to in your free time?

Having recently moved closer to home I enjoy spending more time with my friends and family. In the evenings I like to try and keep fit by going to the gym or fitness bootcamp with my sister or going for a drink or out for dinner with friends.  Since moving away from Portsmouth I spend some of my weekends travelling down to Portsmouth to spend the day on the beach and visiting friends.

I also love planning my next holiday which is hard to do at the moment, however I do have a skiing trip booked for January which will hopefully go ahead. Fingers Crossed!
