Nadine is a Senior Civil Engineer based in our Southern office. She graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2015 and went on to work in a consultancy in Cairo as a Structural Engineer where she undertook a wide range of Residential projects. She joined Paul Basham Associates in September 2020 as an Assistant Engineer and has since worked her way up to becoming a Senior Civil Engineer!
What does your job involve?
My role involves tackling engineering challenges on a daily basis. My main responsibilities revolve around assessing flood risks and designing sustainable drainage systems for various types of projects. I manage projects from conception and see it through planning approval or the construction stage, ensuring they are complete within their agreed timeframes and budgets. This requires maintaining effective communication with clients, the project team, and authorities. I am also involved in mentoring junior team members and helping them develop their skills.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I find it exciting to create unique engineering solutions that are tailored to each site's challenges. I enjoy being able to coordinate and integrate sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) within a site's landscape, knowing it will make a tangible impact on the environment and communities.
It is very rewarding to hear positive feedback from clients after securing planning consent, and it is even more rewarding to see our designs in action after it has been constructed! Whether it is roads and houses on a residential site, or open SuDs that benefit the environment and prevent flooding. We have a fantastic engineering team that I really enjoy working with. Since I joined in 2020 it has been amazing to see us grow and expand further.
What challenges you each day?
It can get quite busy when managing several projects simultaneously. Keeping up with client queries, design coordination and guiding junior members of the team can be challenging at times. This requires prioritising tasks, managing time effectively, and ensuring that each project receives the attention it requires. Additionally, staying updated on the latest industry regulations, technologies, and best practices is crucial to delivering high-quality solutions to our clients.
What do you get up to in your free time?
Aside from engineering, I love everything ART! I have several on-going projects; from sewing, to painting to photography. But most of my free time I enjoy creating customised Arabic calligraphy art for my online shop. I love travelling around the world and exploring new cultures and cuisines and taking my own spin on my favourite recipes.
