Under the Spotlight with Shannon Betteridge

I joined the company as a Graduate back in June 2016 and I can’t believe how quickly that time has gone. It has been a great journey so far and I look forward to seeing what the future holds both for the company and myself.

What does your job involve?
My job involves a number of elements; from preparing and writing documents to support applications, to liaising with the project teams frequently and also attending meetings, public consultations, stakeholder events where appropriate. I also get to dabble in AutoCAD works when necessary, although it’s perhaps not my favourite part of the role!

I am also a line manager for two junior members of the company, and have also taken on the role of technical lead for our Graduate Recruitment Programme in the past year. This sees me work closely with Kayleigh who leads our Recruitment to ensure the programme is as relevant and appropriate for our graduates, no matter when they start or which office they are based in. I also lead on workshops and CPDS on their Graduate Away days and try and encourage them to use one another for support.

What do you enjoy most about the role?
I know it’s cliché, but every day is different and every project is certainly different, and I think that’s why I enjoy it so much. You can come in with a plan every morning, and normally by 9am that plan has gone out of the window. But it’s good to be challenged as it keeps you engaged and on your toes and so I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In addition to the workload, I am extremely lucky to work in such a great team who make coming into work every day enjoyable and fun. We work hard but we have great camaraderie at the same time. I am certainly known as the person who is absolutely useless with computers so I am normally laughed at most days when I have to go grovelling for help!

What do you get up to in your free time?
Free time – what’s that?! Outside of work as many of you know, I have two children who, at 6 and 4, take up most of my time.

When they aren’t, you can find me coaching goalkeepers, under 6s at a local grassroots club, under 4s at football tots and most recently having got back into playing 11-a-side football, between the goalposts for AFC Portchester.

What do you see for the future at Paul Basham Associates?
I see an incredibly bright and positive future for Paul Basham Associates. I have seen a lot of change and growth within the company over the last 9 years and we only seem to be going from strength to strength moving forwards.

We have a great core client base but are always seeking to identify new clients and build new relationships. The personnel in the business always act with our clients best interests at heart and we pride ourselves on our personal relationships we have with them, which stands us in great stead moving forwards.
