Paul Basham Associates have continued to embrace the ever-changing education sector, partnering up with Wildern School and architects ‘Avenues’ to provide invaluable input for the new SCITT building in Hedge End.
The brief
The school required a suitable building to operate as a state of the art School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) facility, ‘The Wildern Partnership SCITT’.
Our approach
Making ‘The Lyceum' building vision a reality was enabled through the completion of a Transport Statement and Parking Survey. This was aided by Paul Basham Associates' ability to tackle complex transport and travel dynamics which have become typical of a modern-day suburban school environment. Paul Basham Associates observed the wide pupil catchment area, multiple community uses and winter weather which lead to a high parking demand. Heavy vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist activity was also noted in and around the access to the school requiring a sensitive assessment mindful of all road users.
The result
Through the School Travel Plan and partnership working with the local authority, Wildern school has recently benefitted from establishing a 'Park & Stride' system. Together with Paul Basham Associates' parking and traffic studies, advice on the school's Travel Plan, construction method statement and transportation contribution negotiations, a favourable case was made to and accepted by the planning application.
