Bakers Solar Farm, Siddlesham

Paul Basham Associates Transport team prepared a transport note to support the development for a proposed solar farm in Sidlesham.

The Brief

With a proposed development for a 12MW solar farm, Paul Basham Associates were asked to support the planning application regarding site access and vehicular impact during construction.

Our approach

Our team entered into pre-application dialogue with West Sussex County Council to establish the broad principles of the scheme. Our transport planning team then assessed the existing and proposed access arrangements and construction traffic impact, which included HGV tracking, to demonstrate that vehicles could safely negotiate the access and the local road network.

We carried out extensive assessment of the construction traffic routing to ensure the existing highway network could accommodate those movements over the 8 week construction phase.

The Result

Following successful planning approval, the solar farm is up and running and capable of powering around 3,686 average homes, whilst retaining its agricultural purpose as sheep graze beneath and around the solar panels.

From our client

I have worked on numerous projects with Paul for a number of years and have consistently found him able to find positive and creative solutions to highway problems towards achieving planning permission.
