Paul Basham Associates were delighted to work with Cambridgeshire Constabulary on the development of the new Police Hub in Milton. The development will provide enhanced facilities, increased cell provision and better access, to enable officers to respond to calls more efficiently.
The Brief
Paul Basham Associates were instructed to complete all necessary transport and highway works required to support this application. These works included pre-application consultation with South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council Highways and Highways England, completing a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan as well as undertaking public consultation events and planning committee.
The Approach
After receiving pre- application feedback a Transport Assessment was prepared which detailed the proposed access arrangements, off-site highway works (in the form of a connected cycle way), internal site layout and parking as well as a traffic impact assessment. Junction capacity assessments were carried out detailing the number of vehicle trips expected at the proposed development in line with data from the constabulary. Junctions 9 and LinSig software were used to assess the junctions in the vicinity of the site with the methodology agreed beforehand with Cambridgeshire County Council. A Travel Plan and Road Safety Audit was also submitted as part of the planning application. Paul Basham Associates then supported the planning application through public consultations and at planning committee.
The Result
The development received full planning permission in March 2021 and having worked on the project for 2 years is a great success for our Cambridge Office and a positive outcome for the client. We look forward to continuing work on the scheme through the S278 process.
