Paul Basham Associates were instructed to support the reserved matters planning application with regards to transport, highways and drainage for the development of 210 dwellings at Darwin Green Cambridge known as ‘BDW3’. This instruction followed our previous work on another phase of the Darwin Green One site known as ‘BDW4’ which received consent in 2022.
The Brief
Paul Basham Associates were instructed to support the reserved matters planning application with regards to transport, highways and drainage for the development of 210 dwellings at Darwin Green Cambridge known as ‘BDW3’. This instruction followed our previous work on another phase of the Darwin Green One site known as ‘BDW4’ which received consent in 2022.
Our Approach
To begin we established the details relating to a workable drainage strategy for the site, consistent with existing provisions, including an assessment of flood and soil mapping. This included the development of site levels, FFLs and appropriate SuDS solutions. The drainage design was then developed and we undertook detailed hydraulic modelling and networks analysis to support our designs. We were then able to submit these calculations and drawing packs and address comments directly to see through approval.
Our approach to the transport elements of the development were compiled within a Reserved Matters Transport Statement which was able to confirm the development proposals. The internal highway arrangement and transport strategy was built on close liaison with the planning and highway authorities. Development of the internal layout was considered against Cambridgeshire County Council standards and included a review of internal road, footway and cycleway geometries as well as vehicle swept path analysis and visibility splay assessments. Traffic calming measures were also integrated into the layout. The layout was developed to ensure that permeability for non-motorised modes of travel was achievable across the site.
The Result
The development was approved in April 2023 and we were delighted to work to provide another positive outcome for a repeat client.
