Working alongside Taylor Hare Architects, Paul Basham Associates were appointed by Jenner (Construction) Ltd, to undertake the Structural and Civil Engineering duties for the social rented housing on the site of the Former Brockman Family Centre in Cheriton.
The Brief
For this new residential development on a Brownfield site, our Structural Engineering scope included the detailed Superstructure and Substructure design for the buildings, and our civil engineering scope included detailed external works and drainage design.
The development comprised the design and build of nine houses, with a mix of six 3-bedroomed and three 4-bedroomed homes alongside eighteen 2-bedroomed apartments all of which are for social rent to local people
Our Approach
Paul Basham Associates were engaged early by Jenner (Construction) Ltd, to design the new houses and apartments, together with the external works and drainage for the site.
All of the buildings were designed as load bearing masonry construction, with traditional mass concrete foundations, taking into account the existing foundations, drains and substructures on the site.
The drainage solution consisted of infiltration components across the development capitalising on the good permeability of the underlying subsoil. Permeable paving, infiltration trenches and cellular systems were all utilised to create a scheme focussed on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) good practice.
The Result
The successful regeneration of the site commenced in May 2021, and was opened in November 2022.
