Paul Basham Associates provided Transport Planning assistance to enable an expansion to an existing Yeomans Peugeot Garage in Worthing to accommodate a new showroom and dealership for Honda.
The Brief
We were tasked with supporting HNW Architects to help facilitate the expansion of the existing Yeomans Peugeot Garage, enabling an additional car dealership (Honda) to be built, as well as new head office facilities to the rear.
Our Approach
To support the expansion of the site, an initial site visit was crucial to determine the existing ‘IN’ and ‘OUT’ access arrangements, particularly given the location of the site to the A259.
A Transport Statement was then prepared to support the application, which required significant consideration to a first principles approach to existing and proposed traffic movements. This included identifying the likely staff trips, customers visiting the workshops, delivery vehicles and cars visiting the dealerships.
Following planning consent, we were also tasked with preparing a Delivery and Servicing Plan to ensure the development and increase in deliveries would not have a detrimental impact on the operation of the major A259 carriageway. The plan considered the timing of car transporter vehicles to and from the site given that they are to service the site to the rear via a single carriageway track, as well as the optimal routing on the strategic road network.
The Result
Planning consent was granted in August 2018. Having recently visited the site, we are pleased to see the new facilities in operation next door to the Peugeot garage ensuring that residents of Worthing have a choice of dealerships to visit and a site that operates well from a highway and traffic manoeuvrability perspective.
