The Proposal
The Dashwood Park Dew Pond forms a key part of the public open space at the entrance to Welborne. This area was designed to deliver an attractive landscaped feature while managing the surface water drainage discharge for Phase 1 of the development.
The Approach
The design was developed to meet Phase 1 infrastructure drainage requirements, ensuring effective surface water discharge while aligning with the landscape architect’s vision and CGI concepts. Our team carefully balanced engineering functionality with aesthetic quality to create a space that closely matched the design intent. We managed submissions for reserved matters approval and planning permission, alongside adoption discussions. Detailed tender and construction packs were produced, supported by ongoing onsite construction assistance. Coordination with landscape architects was a key part of the process. Bespoke elements included naturalistic headwalls, coir matting, gentle gradients, and a permanent water level.
The Result
Our coordinated approach secured reserved matters approvals. The pond has been successfully constructed and now stands as an attractive green gateway, enhancing visual appeal and acting as a focal entrance feature for the wider community. The adjacent play park has also now been constructed, further strengthening this area as a key public space.
